What does STEM look like in preschool?

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities are so important for preschoolers to help develop curiosity and problem-solving and critical thinking skills. In preschool, that can look like solving building challenges: Can you build a boat for the gingerbread man to sail on (so he doesn't have to use a fox's tail?) Can you build a ladder for a firefighter to climb using only certain materials? Can you build an electrical circuit and what materials will work and not work to complete the circuit? Can you figure out the capacity of different cylinders? We are constantly doing science experiments in class, too. What will happen when we place celery in colored water? Seeds in a pan of shallow water? How do we make artificial snow? Is there a way to turn artificial snow back into a powder? How? I ask lots of questions that get kids thinking and asking questions of their own!
