We work on gross motor skills at Desert Bloom, including jumping rope! Yes, preschoolers can learn to jump rope! Jumping rope improves coordination, balance, agility and engages the core. A strong core is crucial for good handwriting - it provides the necessary stability and balance for proper posture and fine motor control. (It's why we also do crab walks, planks, and yoga in fun ways at school!) We also work on kicking, throwing, and catching balls. Preschoolers catch balls, bean bags, scarves and artificial snowballs to help develop hand-eye coordination. Hand-eye coordination plays a significant role in academic performance, particularly in reading and writing. Children with good hand-eye coordination can more easily learn to form letters, numbers, and read text. Having strong hand-eye coordination also contributes to better spatial awareness and problem-solving skills, which are valuable in subjects like math and science.
